Justice is about shifting power, not just winning a case
The journey towards justice does not end with a courtroom victory. Movement lawyers must look beyond the confines of law to comprehend what a shift of power may mean to each client. You can lose the case but win the struggle, if your client has more power at the end of it.

The law can shift power, but only to a point, and to understand its own power, we must understand its limitations and how we can both work within it and expand it
“The master's tools will never dismantle the master's house,” Audrey Lorde famously said. “They may allow us to temporarily beat him at his own game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change.” To the extent that the law is “the master’s tool”, we need to learn how to use it to play the game – but also to transform it, so it can bring about meaningful change.
